This image depicts a Cistercian nun kneeling before the figure of Bishop Bernward of Hildesheim. The nun holds a rosary and is depicted in the habit typical of the Cistercian houses in this region. She wears a 'crown' with bands of white wool in an interlocking pattern over her veil and a red cross over her forehead. A similar head covering was worn by the nuns of Medingen.
This was one of the small, devotional images discovered beneath the floorboards of the nuns' choir in 1953.
