Descriptive Notes

The nuns of Wienhausen were probably responsible for the creation of this embroidery, if not its design. The scenes depicted here come from the life of Mary and the childhood of Christ. In addition to a scene depicting Christ's birth in the manger (not pictured here), scenes of Jesus teaching in the temple as a child, and of Mary walking with the Christ child (bottom left) are portrayed. This final scene appeared elsewhere within the convent. (See related works)
