Description: In the center of the circular seal sits Oswald of Northumbria on a bench, crowned, holding a foliate scepter in his right hand and cross-surmounted globe in his left hand, in the central arch of the church of Chester Abbey. He is flanked by Ss. Peter (destroyed) and Paul, standing with a sword in right hand. Within the trefoil and quatrefoil are the heads of two monks, or the sun and moon.

Border inscription: ...VM...AM MA...(E SIGILLVM).
