Historical Context

This is one of a pair of stained glass windows (see image #36) located in the chapter house of Pedralbes. The chapter house was built in 1419, but at least one part of the stained glass--the crucifixion (center panel)--dates from the 14th century. The bottommost panel shows the device of the monastery of Pedralbes. This was originally the personal device of the monastery's founder Elisenda de Montcada, combining the striped crest of the counts of Catalonia, into which she married (left), and the spotted crest of the house of Montcada.
