The house was founded as a dependency of S. Stefano di Genova, a male Benedictine house. In 1244, Pope Innocent IV ratified the sale of the house for 415 lire to the female Cistercian house of S. Maria di Banno (see S. Stefano), of which the house now became a dependency.
In 1467 the nuns ask the pope to transfer their principal seat to Sezze [from Tagliolo?]
