Priveleges & Papal Exemptions

In 1177 the nuns obtained from the legates of Pope Alexander III a exemption that liberated them from the abuses of the superviory power of the monks of S. Nicola.

Dependency Of

Probably founded in 1160 as a dependency of the male priory S. Nicola in Foggia, subordiante for a time to abb. di S. Maria di Pulsano.

Literary Works

The nuns composed a famous "martyrology," now preserved in the National Library of Naples. This work was not so much a true martyrology, but actually a necrology, recording the deaths of all the nuns of the house, up to 1244.

Miscellaneous Information

In 1292 the deserted monastery was given to the abbess of S. Bartolomeo di Melfi by the Bishop of Troia. In 1303 it was found to be abandoned.
