Foundation Information

According to Hauck, this community was an episcopal foundation made by Bishop Hildigrim of Halberstadt. Very little information about this convent exists. Only one document refers to this community, and it mentions Bishop Hildigrim, leading Hauck to place the convent within the diocese of Halberstadt (Hauck, 553). Heineken, however, questions his placement of the community (Heineken, 46).

Litigations

Ridigippi had to protect its property, the inheritance of the founder, against objections (Heineken, 49). The heirs of Bishop Hildigrim, who had founded the convent of Ridigippi on his own property, expelled the abbess and nuns. The abbess, accompanied by her father, then beseeched King Arnulf to confirm the right of the convent's independence from the bishop's heirs or any other power (Heineken, 51-2). In return, the nuns provided a yearly tithe of ten silver Soldi to the episcopal church for this benefice. Because apart from the document recording this dispute, no trace of the convent of Ridigippi exists, it is probable that the abbess, despite her rights and episcopal protection, was forced to give in to the heirs (Heineken, 52).
