Foundation Information

The convent was founded by the noblewoman, Hiltipurk or Hiltipurg, and the priest, Folkhart, according to a document of Arnulf from August 13, 896 (Hauck, 554). The convent was originally held (controlled?) by the founders; after their deaths their families had privileges within the convent (Heineken, 68). The convent was placed under the protection of the king.

Other Ecclesiastical Relations

Moellenbeck paid a tithe to the epsicopal church in return for the bishop's protection of the convent's property. However, Moellenbeck had the ability to dissolve this relationship in order to elect a better protector, if the bishop acted to his own advantage over that of the convent (Heineken, 60).
