Founded for the usual 13 nuns, who probably begged alms. According to Thompson, the founder is unknown, but there is a tradition of royal foundation (Women Religious: The Founding of English Nunneries After the Norman Conquest, 222).

Dependency Of
 

Grimsby Priory is a dependency of the Austin Cannons of Wellow. They are chosen as wardens of the priory's property in 1232 and again in 1303.

They were given a license to beg following various disasters 1311 and a fire in 1459.
