Foundation Information

An early medieval convent fallen to ruin was restored by Adelaide, mother of King Robert the Pious of France, in about 1000 AD. In 1129, the house was seized by Abbot Suger of Saint-Denis who used almost certainly forged documents to show that the place was a property of his abbey. The nuns were dispersed. One of them was Heloise, who subsequently become first abbess of the Paraclete.
