Subject

Description: Maderno was witness to the finding of S. Cecilia's body whole and uncorrupted in 1599, and was commissioned to make a record of the body, as it had been found, in marble. An inscription to one side of the floor is Maderno's testimony of this.

Interpretation: O'neil explores the iconographic inclusion if what appears to be a turban, which was originally her veil. None of the witnesses dared to lift the veil from her face.
